12th Annual NWA Red Ribbon Rally

Bud Walton Arena
October 29, 2009
10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m

The National Red Ribbon Celebration brings millions of people together to raise awareness regarding the need for alcohol, tobacco, drug and violence prevention, early intervention, and treatment services. It's the largest, most visible prevention awareness campaign observed annually in the United States.

In Northwest Arkansas we invite area schools from the four county region which includes, Washington, Benton, Carroll, and Madison. We invite all these schools to bring their 5th graders to share in a day of fun, while at the same time they learn about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

The NWA Red Ribbon Rally seeks to educate children in the 5th grade about the effects of drug abuse because that's when studies show it will have the greatest impact.

In 2008 the NWA Red Ribbon Rally hosted 980 5th graders from Washington County Elementary Schools.

Drug and alcohol abuse has caused devastation to the children, families, and community as a whole in Northwest Arkansas.

Studies have shown that the most impressionable age for children regarding their drug use is between 10 and 12 years of age.

This year’s guest speakers include University of Arkansas Athletes, Miss University of Arkansas, Mary Marsh (KFSM Channel 5 reporter and former U of A cheerleader) with more being added each day.

The program will consist of U of A Mascots, emergency, fire, and police vehicles from surrounding areas, Marshallese stick dancers, The Game and Fish Commission’s “Giant Fish Tank”, a Aikido martial arts demonstration, Miss U of A, and much, much more!!!
